This is as good as it gets. Nick Bano nicely summarises the best recent and historical writing on housing crises, giving examples of problems and responses locally and more widely, now and in the past. Much of the content is economic, but the author, being a lawyer, knows many of us struggle with complex ideas, and writes with necessary clarity. The account naturally takes the tenants’ side, but is interestingly sympathetic to struggling small landlords who have found themselves encouraged to paint themselves into a financial corner, so, despite the hostile title, I imagine it a good read for some landlords as well as the target readership. Is this crisis easy to fix? No. But how it happens will, as the book says, be interesting.
